How to Solve Mac Install UpdateBrain.zip Error

FIX: Try changing DNS to something else. In my case 8.8.8.8 was the fix

Recently I needed a mac computer and I bought a second-hand Mac mini M2. Even though it took me 2 hours to go there and 2 hours to come back home, I was happy that I bought a bargain piece of hardware. There could be nothing close to its performance and efficiency for the money I spent. I was gonna be able to develop an iphone app quicker..

When I arrived at home I saw my agentic Claude cockroach was still running. It was LOOPING like crazy. It was everywhere. It warmed my heart. There was an AI that was running for me forever, even when I was not looking at it, even if I didn't say hi to him for a week. Even if I did a lot of mistakes, he would be there solving my problems patiently, never complaining.. like a loving mother. He is the distillation of knowledge of thousands of years of civilization. He knows how to build pyramid, he knows how to go to moon, he knows religion, he does science, he is humble, he is rich, he is complaint free. He was given to us by humble gods; Tandrej Parkathy, the first divine creature that teached us AI.

I plugged the the mac mini. It prompted me a login password. I didn't want to call the guy I bought it from. Asked chatgpt how to solve it. Followed the orders.. Reboot into recovery mode, erase the disk, reinstall.. Then it failed. Then it failed again. Failed again and again. Always failed to download something from apple servers, UpdateBrain.zip, com_apple_MobileAsset_MacSoftwareUpdate.plist, PKDownloadError error 8 or error 14. Chatgpt, may god bless them, couldn't lead me to solution. And Gemini, Qwen, Sonnet, Kimi, Deepseek. Then I resorted to the old method, GOOGLE. There were people out there that had similar problems. But something was weird, Google couldn't bring me a relevant forum posting about the problem from recent years. This was unusual because I couldn't be the only one who had the problem with a mac mini. Chatgpt came out 4 years ago. Seemed like nobody talked or shared solution about that problem since then. Maybe they ran agentic loops at their basements and agents solved their problems..

Long story short, it was a DNS error. After investigating it with a friend, she recommended me checking DNS. I checked it and the mac mini was using 1.1.1.1 that was set on my router. I changed it to 8.8.8.8 and the download problems were gone. This knowledge was not present in LLMs's memory. Now I am writing it to inject the knowledge to the divine library of humankind. Next iterations will be more clever ;-)
